The U.S. National Science Foundation Directorate for Geosciences (NSF GEO) is soliciting photos featuring NSF-supported projects.

What

NSF GEO is collecting photos to feature in its outreach and communication products. We will choose approximately 13 photos for our 2026 calendar, which we plan to widely distribute at upcoming conferences and events. We will also look at photo submissions for potential new story ideas and outreach materials. We welcome photos across disciplines that show fieldwork, field sites, field samples, lab work, community connections and outreach.

Who

You! We are looking to highlight photos from anyone who has participated in or contributed to an NSF-supported project or effort. Photos, preferably captured in the last 10 years, can be associated with active or expired awards.

When

Although we always welcome photos from our community, we ask that you submit your most compelling, high-resolution photos for possible inclusion in our 2026 calendar by Sept. 1, 2025.

Why

Photos can help us forge a deeper understanding of science and enhance storytelling efforts. We are inspired by photos that show how we do science.

How

We ask that you submit your photos through the NSF Widen portal or send them directly to us. If you use the portal, please add "GEO calendar" under the primary metadata box for “Who are these assets for?” Please also note your NSF award number in the photo caption.

If you have any questions, please reach out to: geo-oad-comteam@nsf.gov.
