Calling for proposals that apply AI techniques to geoscience questions
The U.S. National Science Foundation Collaborations in Artificial Intelligence and Geosciences (NSF CAIG) program supports projects that develop and adopt innovative artificial intelligence methods to help understand the planet.
"We look forward to helping build profound and lasting connections between geoscientists and experts in AI that will benefit both communities," said Andrew Zaffos, a program director overseeing the NSF CAIG program housed in the NSF Division for Research, Innovation, Synergies and Education.
The program supports projects that use sophisticated or novel AI methods to enable significant breakthroughs in geoscience research. The key characteristic of a CAIG project is its potential to both answer important geoscience questions and improve AI techniques by bringing together experts from both fields.
Last August, the program provided $20 million for projects that support key technology areas, including AI, cyberinfrastructure and advanced computing.
Proposals are due April 2, 2025. Program officers will host an informational webinar on Monday, Jan. 27, at 11 a.m. EST. The webinar will be recorded.
